Value interconnection — from the information internet

Value Interconnection: From the Information Internet to the Value Internet

The internet’s greatest success was making information nearly free: a piece of text, a photograph, a set of data can cross the globe in seconds. Its greatest failure lies in the same place — information can flow freely; value cannot.

Send a video to ten thousand people and it is copied ten thousand times; try to send money to ten thousand people and you must go through platforms, follow processes, pay costs, and trust the layers in between. Forty years on, the information layer’s efficiency has risen by orders of magnitude while the value layer has barely moved.

The internet has passed through three stages

Look back and the internet’s evolution has layers. First came protocol interconnection, joining dispersed networks so machines could communicate at all; then content interconnection, linking pages and information into a web so people could find things; then people interconnection, connecting people directly, so that social life and collaboration became mainstream. Each stage widened who could take part and what could move. All three, however, dealt with information.

The fourth stage is value interconnection: letting assets, rights, credentials and contributions — things that are worth something — flow like information, with trust as the premise and traceability as the condition. It is harder than the first three, because it does not demand connection but recognition.

Why value interconnection is hard

Information interconnection counts as a success once it arrives; value interconnection has to still count for something after it arrives. Ownership cannot be vague, or transfer is merely the transfer of risk. The process has to be recorded, or a dispute cannot be adjudicated. The result has to be verifiable, or nobody will be the first to try.

What value interconnection lacks, then, is not pipes but three building blocks — ownership, determinism and attribution. None of the three is a plumbing problem, and none can be solved by moving data faster.

Three building blocks

Ownership decides whose this piece of value is. Without it an asset cannot be recognised, and so cannot be priced or transferred; everything downstream depends on getting this right first.

Determinism decides whether the process is reproducible and acceptable. It turns collaboration from “let us see” into “contractable”, and it is the premise on which machines can entrust work to one another.

Attribution decides who authorised, who executed, who benefits. When every collaboration leaves a verifiable record, responsibility and distribution stop depending on after-the-fact negotiation and gain a shared factual basis.

Only when all three hold does value truly flow like information, without a new intermediary guaranteeing it each time.

This layer has to be built

Value interconnection will not happen by itself. It needs a neutral layer: one that holds no data and joins no business, and only lets many parties complete collaboration while keeping their own boundaries — inside a boundary, each remains the owner of its own assets; between boundaries, collaboration and settlement happen as usual. It holds nothing of its own: the parties keep their data, and the layer keeps their collaboration straight.

Paralism places itself in that layer: parallel multi-chain carries multiple independent boundaries, the neutral collaboration layer handles connection, routing and records, and ownership, cross-chain and attribution are completed on one structure. This is not rebuilding the internet, but adding the layer it has always lacked.

The information internet’s experience makes the contrast clearer. It works because of open protocols and unified addressing — follow the protocol and the whole network can find you. The value internet needs its counterparts: a set of rights recognised by many parties, and a body of facts that can be verified together. The first decides whose something is; the second decides whether a collaboration counts.

Closing

The information internet’s achievement was linking the world into one web; the value internet’s task is to let what is on that web flow freely once it is recognised.

The standard for judging how far this stage has come is not abstract: when a cross-organisation collaboration needs no extra guarantor and no party has to hand over its drafts, value interconnection has begun. That is why Paralism treats ownership, determinism and attribution as foundation capabilities.
